How to build a newsletter referral program with AWeber

The Newsletter Referral is really simple to set up and use; you have to:

1. Create your Viral Loops campaign using the template.
2. Customize your campaign.
3. Connect the campaign with one of the supported email platforms.
4. Turn your readers into ambassadors, get more email subscribers, and build a stronger community through word-of-mouth.

Integrating Aweber with Viral Loops and starting your newsletter referral program couldn’t be easier; there are only four steps:

1. Create a newsletter referral campaign in Viral Loops.
2. Connect Aweber with Viral Loops.
3. Add the referral widget inside your newsletters.
4. Sync your existing Aweber contacts with your Viral Loops campaign.

Creating your newsletter referral program.

1. Create a Viral Loops campaign using The Newsletter Referral template.
2. Select AWeber and then press the “continue” button.

3. Give a name to your campaign.
4. Set up your rewards and milestones.

5. Edit and customize your widgets.

Here’s an example of how your “Email Widget” could look like.

Connecting your Aweber list with your referral program.

After customizing your campaign, you’ll need to connect Viral Loops with your AWeber list.

1. Click ‘Connect’
2. Log in to your AWeber account.
3. Select the list of your preference.

Add a referral widget inside your newsletters.

In this last step, you have a few options:

• Add referrals in your emails.
• Give everyone a referral link.
• Integrations.
• Do a test.

To add a referral widget inside your newsletters, press the “show me how” button next to the “Add referrals in your emails” option.

Press “Copy to clipboard” to copy the script, and then jump to your AWeber account and choose to create a new broadcast. 

Choose the “drag and drop email builder” to create your broadcast.

While editing your email in AWeber, click the “Source” button in the editing toolbar in the section you are editing and paste the Email Widget’s embed code from Viral Loops.

To add a referral widget inside your newsletters:

1. Click the ‘Show me how’ button next to the ‘Add referrals in your emails’ option.
2. Click ‘Copy to clipboard’ to copy the script.
3. Go to your AWeber account.
4. Create a new broadcast with the ‘Drag and drop email builder.’
5. While editing your email in AWeber, click the “Source” button in the editing toolbar in the section you are editing and paste the Email Widget’s embed code from Viral Loops.

 

Syncing your list’s existing contacts with your referral program.

If you want your existing subscribers to get assigned a unique referral URL:

Go back to your Viral Loops account, and then go back to the “Connect” step. 

You’ll see that you can sync your AWeber subscribers to your viral loops campaign by adding a Webhook URL. 

Select and copy the Webhook URL, and go back to AWeber. 

On the top right of the screen, choose “Integrations.” 

Your integration with Viral Loops should be already active. Press the Viral Loops icon, paste your Webhook URL in the empty field, and press “Save.”

1. Return to your Viral Loops campaign, and go back to the ‘Connect’ step.
2. Select and copy the Webhook URL.
3. Go back to AWeber, and on the top right of the screen, choose ‘Integrations.’
4. Click the Viral Loops icon, paste your Webhook URL in the empty field, and click ‘Save.’
