Viral Loops Product Update: Viral Loops for Messenger gets an upgrade.

We are almost halfway through Q2 for 2019. What a ride!

If you are familiar with our work, you probably know that in the past few months we got obsessed over referral marketing via Messenger.

Our obsession led us to create the first comprehensive solution for running referral giveaways via Messenger.

We used the 1st version of this product to run quite a few campaigns and the results were amazing- on one occasion we managed to generate 35K leads in 20 days.

The feedback, and insight, we managed to gather from these campaigns offered a chance to see what we did right and what could become better.

And we made things better… a lot.

This product update aims to present the 2nd version of Viral Loops for Messenger(v2.1), and all the changes that come with it from May and on. 

BTW, we used v2.1 of Viral Loops for Messenger, and we collected 4K+ leads in 5 days for a Shopify store.

Everything new with our Manychat Template.

In general, Facebook Pages are allowed to run referral campaigns and giveaways by incentivizing people to invite their friends to take actions and get several rewards.

But, it depends on the case and rewards if a campaign is compliant with Messenger’s Terms of Services. 

However, Messenger is still in a transition state and we want to be on the safe side anticipating as much as possible future changes and concerns.

For that reason—and given that our Messenger Giveaway template has numerous positive effects for a company—we decided to remove the option of incentivizing people to invite their friends for extra entries. We already beta tested this with several clients and we are very happy with the results. 

More specifically, Here is what we did to ensure high performance for your campaigns:

  • People are prompted to invite their friends based on altruism: For example: “Invite your friends to get a chance to win this great reward!”
  • We still do track referrals and who invited whom. This helps brands identify their advocates and run targeted marketing campaigns.
  • Added the option to incentivize people to take other actions than inviting a friend for more entries to the giveaway, like “Follow on Instagram.” This will help you increase your audience in other social networks.

As you already know, we are committed to amplifying your message through word of mouthonline and offlineand messenger marketing is a great tool to achieve this. We will keep a close eye on messenger space and make sure you learn the latest developments first.

The basic flow

Overall, the way the basic flow of the template works in a very simple way.

After entering the flow, the end user is asked to confirm his/her participation in the giveaway. After doing so, users are prompted to invite their friends in order for their friends to get to know about the giveaway as well.

That’s the main difference between this template and the previous version we released in the past; in the previous version, we incentivized referrals by offering more entries to the giveaway.

Obviously, that’s not the case anymore, for the reasons mentioned in the section above.

In order to maximize the results of each campaign, the basic flow was enriched with 2 additional flow for re-engaging with the campaign’s participants.

Explosive Instagram growth.

For the 1st re-engagement flow, we’ve added a "Follow us on Instagram" step. 

When clicked, the participant receives 10 extra entries for following your Instagram account (win-win!).

Due to Instagram not offering an open API, it’s not possible to actually track which users really followed your account. 

Our tests showed that the vast majority of people visiting your account will also follow it, but even if people don’t actually follow you, the organic reach of the Instagram account will peak quickly resulting in better discovery inside Instagram itself.

One final push.

Users that had indeed clicked the “Follow on Instagram” button, will also receive the 2nd re-engagement flow.

This condition is added to ensure that the 24+1 hour conversation window stays open and you can message your Manychat subscribers free of charge with any type of content (promotional or other). 

In this step, participants will be informed about their current total points and be reminded to invite more of their friends.

The perfect flow for eCommerce.

In Viral Loops, we’ve fallen in love with the eCommerce industry and that’s the reason we wanted to do something special for our eCommerce customers in this new version.

The flow for eCommerce works in the exact same way as the basic flow I described above, with only one difference; Before confirming their participation, users are asked to choose the prize they want to win the most from the giveaway.

Now you can offer your users the option to choose from up to 4 different prizes.

This is ideal for eCommerce/Shopify stores that wish to promote their products.

That procedure allows you to apply tags to the participants according to their reward choice, and then run to those tagged users Ads according to their interests with retargeting ads.

Bonus features that make a difference.

Do you like making sales?

We know that for an eCommerce business, even though that awareness is really important, there’s only one thing that really moves the needle; SALES.

That’s why we created a bonus flow, specifically for our eCommerce customers, that aims to bring sales when participants are all warmed up.

After the giveaway ends, you have to inform participants about the big winner; right?

That’s an excellent chance for you to incentivize people who didn’t win to make a purchase from you by offering a friendly discount. That’s what this bonus flow is all about.

Email marketing is still relevant.

Although Messenger is on the rise, email marketing still works

For Viral Loops, it’s still the #1 channel for distributing our content. Email addresses are valuable for a variety of reasons- distributing content, creating custom audiences for ads, newsletters with offers, sending receipts, etc.

Grabbing people’s attention on Messenger might act as a drive for users to provide their email addresses, as the particular medium (Messenger) has a “quick” user experience that people are familiar with.

In this version of Viral Loops for Messenger, we’ve added a bonus flow that allows you to ask people for their email address, enriching your database with new leads.

The way it works is fairly simple; after entering the flow, users are asked to comply with the Terms & Conditions (GDPR compliance).

Right after agreeing with the conditions presented, they are asked to enter their email address.

Simple as that.

In order for these email addresses to be sent to your database, you have to integrate Manychat with the email marketing platform you’re using.

Manychat has an official integration with Mailchimp but in case you’re using another service, you can connect your Manychat account with some of the most popular email marketing services with Zapier.

Launch & pre-launch for your Messenger the easy way.

On the time of the actual launch, you needed as many eyeballs on the giveaway as possible.

That’s the reason you need a pre-launch campaign

The easiest way to do so is by creating a Facebook post announcing there will be a huge giveaway and ask people to leave a comment answering a simple question.

Every time a person answers the question, they will be added in our pre-launch segment inside Manychat.

This is possible with Manychat’s “Comment to message” growth tool.

Τhe "Comment to message" growth tool can be used, not only during the pre-launch period but on the launch date as well.

If you want to make only one Facebook Post about the giveaway, it would be better to do so at the launch date.

In case you wanted to use this particular growth tool in the past, you had to do all the work manually. From now, it’s included in Viral Loops’ Manychat template.

In order to make this work, you should make some changes to the copy of the automated message and opt-in message according to your business/brand tone and to change the Launch Date.

After that, you should create a post on their Facebook Page.

It is advisable to use a remarkable picture that would catch the eye, something related to the giveaway concept or rewards or something related to the keyword/questions asked.

The copy of the Facebook post should include:

  • Announce the upcoming giveaway.
  • Prompt users to comment on the Facebook post in order to receive in their Messenger inbox a message(that should be explicitly explained). 

It is better to include a creative question that would create many Facebook comments, it’s more conversational/advisable.

After setting up the "Comment to message" growth tool along with the Facebook Post, it’s time to publish the Facebook post and as soon as possible to connect it to the growth tool.

Go to the growth tool, click the "Select a post", select the corresponding post and then activate the growth tool.

The 1st Q for 2019 came to a glorious end!

This is an opportunity to express our gratitude for your support and update you about the things that changed inside Viral Loops the previous month.

We managed to have some major updates regarding requests from our users, and I can say that we are really excited about it.

Here's what's in for Viral Loops users, from March and on ????

This creates some new API calls for running campaigns with the Leaderboard Giveaway / Startup Pre-launch templates. See the documentation for the new API calls.

????️‍????️ Messenger Giveaways onboarding.

This changes the campaign creation process for Messenger Giveaways. Check it out and give us your feedback!

???? Bux Fixes.

Navigating to "Last" page of participants.

This fixes the bug where the users could not go to the last page of their participant’s list in the Campaign Dashboard.

Editors accept line breaks.

This fixes the bug where some text editors in the Campaign Wizard did not accept line breaks. The user would press enter but the text would still stay in one line. For example, this happened on the pre-filled email sharing text.

CSS characters in Shopify campaign page.

This fixes the bug where some CSS in the Referral Page in Shopify campaigns would not render correctly and the style was not being applied properly.

Copy icon in popups inside the wizard.

This fixes the bug where the icon was not being displayed on the “click to copy” button in the Campaign Wizard for the Tempting Giveaway - Leaderboard Giveaway - Startup Pre-launch templates.

Handle shop/update Webhook for Shopify.

This fixes issues that would come up if the user changed something on their Shopify store, such as changing the store URL, closing the store etc.

Viral Loops Product Update: What’s New From February

February was 3 days shorter than most of the other months, so we had to make our best to do everything we planned to do.

We managed to have some major updates regarding requests from our users, and I can say that we are really excited about it.

Here's what's in for Viral Loops users, from February and on ????

???? New billing/subscription pages.

We like things to be as simple as possible, and with this new version of our subscription/billing pages, our users have a clear view of their active plans, as well as their subscription history.

If you're on our trial version, you can view the remaining participant and your options for upgrading your subscription.

If they click the first one, a campaign is created. If they click the second, it takes them to their existing campaign.

Updating the widget for Shopify stores, was heavily requested it from our users.

We listened, and I think we made a great work to rise up to your standards.

???? Bugs

We also gave some time to fix some bugs that our customers faced with their campaigns:

  • Fixed: Sometimes you’d get infinite redirects when logging-out.
  • Fixed: The widget preview in the user settings page (with the GDPR options) would not load sometimes.
  • Changed: The set color for the Referral Count Widget was getting displayed after participation. The widget now has the same set color before and after.
  • Fixed: The welcome popup in the Shopify Dashboard would appear every time. Now the sees it only the first time they go there.
  • Fixed: In Shopify campaigns, the CTA in the referred welcome email and the CTA of the normal welcome email both used the same URL. Not anymore!

???? Enable/Disable the sharing options

You can now choose which sharing options you want to be displayed on the floating Ambassador Widget.???? See the example below.

???? Add custom CSS in the Referral Page

Merchants can add custom CSS in their Referral Page (at their own risk ????). To do so, edit the Referral Page from the Campaign Wizard and find the option in the sidebar on the left:

???? The Referral Page is now responsive

The Referral Page is now responsive so your customers can keep referring their friends when they visit your store from a mobile device.

???? Track referred purchases from everyone

Referred purchases are now tracked for any customer in Viral Loops for Shopify, regardless if they have joined the campaign or not.

It used to be that for a referral purchase to be counted, the invitee had to join the campaign and then make a purchase using the same email address they used to join the campaign.

This has now changed and a referred purchase is counted regardless if the invitee joins the campaign.

The invitee does not need to join the campaign from the widget or Referral Page for the referred purchase to be counted. However, to be counted as a referred subscriber (→ for the Milestone rewards), the invitee has to join the campaign.

Other New Features

???? Twitter OpenGraph tags

Open Graph tags are now supported for Twitter sharing. The user can set these up in the Campaign Wizard (wherever they are editing the sharing options) and when a participant shares their unique link (vrlps.co format) on Twitter, the rich content will be displayed for the link:

???? Reward redeemed webhook

A new webhook is available for the Milestone Referral template and the Refer a Friend template. This webhook is fired when the user approves a pending reward from the Campaign Dashboard.

When the user approves a pending reward, a webhook can be fired.

The webhook is set-up automatically at the Webhook integration settings in the Integrations step of the Campaign Wizard:

The endpoint URL is where you want the webhook to be fired.

This is useful if you want to do a specific action when a reward is approved. For example, you could use this webhook to do some action in Zapier when a reward is approved, eg. send an sms to the recipient of the reward, add the participant in a spreadsheet or even use some service like Tango Card to send gift cards to participants that reach a milestone.

✉️ Campaign emails are now edited with markdown

Viral Loops Product Update: What’s New For November

Hey there, friends! ????

This is our latest product update. ????

We’ re announcing new features, major upgrades and also minor bug fixes and UI improvements.

So, here's what's new:

Features

1. Reward images for all reward types, in Shopify campaigns

In the Milestone Rewards of a Shopify Campaign, Shopify users were able to upload reward images only for “Free Product” rewards.

It looked like this:

Now they can upload an image for every type of reward, even if it’s a discount reward.

2. A new way of exporting participants

This fixes issues our customers have had in the past where they didn’t receive the export email.

The export CSV now sends an email to the user’s email address with a link to download the CSV file.

The file is no longer getting attached to the email.

3. The Referral Page is now embedded in the Shopify Store

For those of you that use the Viral Loops story for Shopify, The Referral Page is now a  dedicated page in a Shopify store.

It is created automatically when the app is installed, so it looks just like any other page in the store.

Shopify users can also change the URL of the Referral Page (only the last part, after /pages/):

In the Referral Page, the store's customers can join the campaign and see their sharing options, coupons won etc.

Shopify users can edit the Referral Page from the editor in the Campaign Wizard. They have to edit the Joining and the Sharing states of the page by selecting the relevant buttons in the sidebar.

4. The Shopify widget only accepts valid email addresses

This fix makes the button on the Shopify widget stay disabled until the customer adds a valid email address.

How to promote your Viral Loops affiliate link

Before I proceed with giving you my tips for promoting your Viral Loops affiliate link, I feel the urge to thank you for being part of our community.

This affiliate program became a reality due to a bunch of amazing people promoting our product on their blogs, YouTube channel, or social media accounts.

In case you haven’t already, join our affiliate program.

It’s very important for us to reward every single one of you that contribute to our company’s growth.

Now, let’s cut right to the chase.

You just received your Viral Loops affiliate link; now what?

You have to start promoting it. Looking at the greater scheme of things, you have 2 options for promoting:

  1. Free promotion.
  2. Paid promotion.

Remember that there is no right or wrong approach to this. You don’t have to go with only one of the 2 options.

The best practice is to put both into play.

Let’s see which are the best free promotion strategies for your Viral Loops affiliate link:

  • Blogging.
  • Vlogging.
  • Social Media.
    • Facebook.
    • Instagram.
    • Pinterest.

On the other hand, if you’re willing to spend some money to promote your affiliate link you can use:

  • Google Ads.
  • Facebook ads.
  • Native ads on blogs.

If you’re willing to use both paid and free strategies, you have to treat your promotions as an ecosystem.

That means that each particle of your ecosystem should reinforce another particle.

Before we dive deeper into each strategy, there’s something that you should always keep in mind:

When you’re posting your Viral Loops affiliate link (or any other affiliate link), you should let people know that it is an affiliate link.

Being open about this builds trust with people. Your goal should be to get them to buy through your link because they want to support you.

In addition, you have to keep in mind that our affiliate program doesn’t follow the “one-time commision” logic.

That means that you’re not going to just get paid when you bring a new customer to us; Instead, you’ll get a 30% recurring commision, for as long as those customers use Viral Loops.

So, you should not only look for ways that will bring you affiliate sales but also find ways to retain users in Viral Loops.

The more they stay, the more you make.

Free promotion strategies.

If you don’t want to spend any kind of money in promoting your affiliate link, content creation is the way to go.

Before I tell you about platforms, let’s see what kind of topics you can pick to craft your content:

  • Product comparison.
  • Marketing tools lists.
  • Tutorials.
  • Case studies.

As you probably know, Viral Loops is a referral marketing platform. That means, that the keyword “referral marketing”, is a low-hanging fruit for you.

However, referral marketing is a traction channel. That means it could be part of a bigger marketing strategy.

That means that you can craft content about how to market a specific product or service, and include referral marketing as part of the strategy.

I will not get into how you can conduct a keyword research in this document, as it would take ages. If you’re interested, Brian Dean wrote the best guide about it!

In a recent post, I wrote a bit on how you can use Pinterest as a keyword research tool in order to craft content for Pinterest.

  1. Click the link below.
  2. Press “Ctrl+F”
  3. Search for ”My gf hates Pinterest”
  4. Follow the process written.

Drive a tsunami of traffic to your Shopify store.

Remember!

You should craft content that will both bring affiliate sales, but also retain your affiliate user in Viral Loops.

OK; now that you have an idea on how you can get started with what your content will be about, I will give you a short framework on how to distribute that content. Ready?

  1. Compile your content in a very informative blog post and publish it.
  2. Use the blog post to write the script for a YouTube video.
  3. Shoot the video and publish it with your affiliate link in the description.
  4. Embed the video inside the original post.
  5. Add a link to your post in the description of the Youtube video (some people prefer to see things written).

By now, you’ll have 2 formats for the same topic. Now it’s time for further distribution.

Here are some popular options:

  • Email newsletter.
  • Facebook groups.
  • Instagram stories.
  • Pinterest.
  • Communities.

Email newsletter.

I always find that email subscribers are the most loyal subscribers to have and the harder to retain.

If you’re using email newsletters as a distribution channel, you already know what you have to do.

If not, start considering using it to send your new blog posts/video to your subscribers.

Facebook groups.

Facebook’s ever-changing algorithm is not really friendly for promoting content (unless you’re willing to pay). That’s the main reason that pushed a lot of people into Facebook groups.

In order to sell something, you first have to identify who your prospects are. If you do so, it will be easy for you to find relevant Facebook groups.

Now you have to:

  1. Join a group.
  2. Start engaging with other people’s content (mostly by commenting)
  3. Take your original post and edit it in order to fit the layout of a Facebook post.
  4. Add your video to the post.

Instagram Stories

When Instagram ripped-off Snapchat’s feature, I got furious. Soon I started using it myself.

Instagram’s main algorithm follows the steps of Facebook, but stories are a great way to get engagement.

Here’s what you can do to promote your affiliate link with Instagram stories.

  1. Put your affiliate link on your Instagram bio.
  2. Create a series of stories based on your original post.
  3. Use one of the visuals provided by us, as your last story (prompting people to follow the link in your bio or swipe up).
  4. Save the series of stories in your Highlighted stories in order to keep them for more than 24 hours.

Pinterest.

Pinterest is a visual-oriented platform. That means that you need to make a great image for your post.

Your priority should be to rank as high as possible for your desired keyword in Pinterest search results.

Make sure that:

  1. Your post and description included the right keywords.
  2. You visual is stunning.

In order to rank, your pin will need engagement, which translates into “Saves” and comments.

Communities.

Most people just go and post their work in some communities, expect to get tons of traffic, eventually get 0 traction, and then say that communities are not worth it.

They are called communities for a reason. These are places where similar-minded individuals exchange value and opinions through conversation.

If you want to do great in communities, you first have to be part of the community. That takes time.

The next time someone tells you that communities suck for distributing content, tell them that you find their lack of patience and commitment, disturbing.

Paid promotion strategies.

Personally, I don’t like ads. It’s like renting space.

Owning assets is evergreen.

But algorithms are made by companies; companies need to make money.

Since you are into crafting content, your paid advertising strategy should revolve around promoting this content.

You can do it using Google ads, or Facebook ads and Facebook retargeting ads.
