How to build a newsletter referral program with Revue

Last month we announced The Newsletter Referral— our latest referral marketing template that allows you to integrate your referral programs directly inside your newsletters.

The Newsletter Referral is really simple to set up and use. All you have to do:

  1. Create your Viral Loops campaign using the template.
  2. Customize your campaign.
  3. Connect the campaign with one of the supported email platforms.
  4. Turn your readers into ambassadors, get more email subscribers, and build a stronger community through word-of-mouth.

The integration of Revue with The Newsletter Referral.

By connecting your Revue account with The Newsletter Referral, you can:
  • Build referral programs that run entirely from inside your newsletter emails without any coding skills.
  • Automatically reward your most loyal readers.
  • Generate unique referral links for your subscribers.
  • Keep your Revue lists in sync with your referral programs.

This article will guide you through connecting your Revue lists with The Newsletter Referral template and building your newsletter referral programs.

How to build a newsletter referral program with Revue

Integrating Revue with Viral Loops and starting your newsletter referral program couldn’t be easier; there are only four steps:

  1. Create a newsletter referral campaign in Viral Loops.
  2. Connect Revue with Viral Loops.
  3. Add the referral link inside your newsletters.
  4. Sync your existing Revue contacts with your Viral Loops campaign.

Creating your newsletter referral program.

  1. Create a Viral Loops campaign using The Newsletter Referral template.
  2. Select Revue and then press the “continue” button.

  1. Give a name to your campaign.
  2. Set up your rewards and milestones.

 

  1. Edit and customize your Sharing Page and Subscriber Page.

Here’s an example of how your “Sharing Page” could look like.

 

Connecting your Revue account with your referral program.

After customizing your campaign, you’ll need to connect Viral Loops with your Revue account.

  1. Go to your Revue Account.
  2. Click on your user icon on the top right corner, and choose ‘Account Settings’ and ‘Integrations.’
  3. Go to the bottom of the screen and copy your API Key.
  4. Go back to your Viral Loops campaign, paste the API Key, and click ‘Connect.’

 

Add a referral program inside your newsletters.

In this last step, you have a few options:

  • Promote your referral campaign.
  • Integrations.
  • Do a test.

To add a referral widget inside your newsletters:

  1. Copy the URL of the Sharing Page
  2. Go to your Revue account.
  3. Create a new Issue.
  4. Add a link section at the bottom of your newsletter.
  5. Paste the URL of the Sharing Page.
  6. Give it a title & a short description.
  7. Add an image (optional).

Syncing your list’s existing subscribers with your referral program.

If you want your existing subscribers to get assigned a unique referral URL:

  1. Go to the ‘Subscribers’ section of your Revue account.
  2. Click on ‘Options’ -> ‘Export your subscribers’
  3. Revue will send you an email with a download link.
  4. Once downloaded, go back to your Viral Loops campaign’s dashboard.
  5. In the ‘Participants’ section, click on ‘Import’ to upload your Revue Subscribers.
